The narrative is set in Brooklyn, far from Broadway and Manhattan's high-rises, private schools, and well-lit neighborhoods. Stories that developed during my six-month stay as a writer-in-residence at the mental health department of Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. Via the Dutch organization Beautiful Distress, founded in 2014 as an attempt to use art to open up the world of psychiatry and battle the stigmas attached to it.
